Michael Maziar
Michael Maziar is a vice president in the Emerging Manager Practice at Silicon Valley Bank in Atlanta, Georgia. He supports rising U.S. tech hubs outside of Boston, California, and New York by assisting venture capitalists with operations, curated insights, portfolio company management, along with day-to-day commercial banking. His team is focused exclusively on early-stage managers on funds I-III, up to $200M, investing in seed through series A rounds.
Before joining the Emerging Manager Practice, Michael was a vice president of the Technology Banking group at SVB, leading startup banking efforts for seed through Series A companies in the Southeast. Prior to SVB, Michael was an investor relations manager at the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), where he curated deal flow for VCs across the country and assisted portfolio companies with tactical and strategic investor readiness. He also served as COO of the Atlanta Technology Angels and as a partner at The Guild, a real estate social enterprise improving the ability of communities to increase asset ownership, anchor jobs locally and ensure local economic resilience through community-based capital. In his 15 years of working with startups and early-stage venture capital investing, Michael has reviewed thousands of applications for funding and helped companies secure more than $350 million in angel, seed and Series A capital.
As a curious and lifelong learner Michael has an MBA from Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business and attended the University of Colorado, where he double majored in political science and sociology. He’s a technology, civic innovation, and social enterprise enthusiast whose success is driven by enthusiastic expertise, creative problem solving and critical analysis., Michael continues to pursue a career supporting innovative and transformative VC models and platforms, that set new standards for the next generation of investors. He also serves on the board of various nonprofits, including Startup Atlanta, LaunchPad2X, Generator, and 18Doors.
Michael’s a professed fan of mixed metaphors and has an adept ability — adeptability? —for creating neologisms. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, sons and dog Stella, mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding or urban farming at their home in the Oakhurst neighborhood of Decatur, Georgia.
