Michael Hanewich

Michael Hanewich is a managing director and a venture capital relationship manager in the Global Life Science and Healthcare practice of Silicon Valley Bank. With more than 35 years of experience, Michael is known throughout the banking industry for his strong relationships with top tier life science and healthcare venture capital firms, entrepreneurs and portfolio company executives. His extensive expertise and deep, long standing relationships have resulted in unmatched performance for SVB’s clients.

Michael joined SVB more than 20 years ago and launched SVB’s Life Science and Healthcare practice for the East Coast in 1999, and he subsequently served as its only life science and healthcare VC relationship manager for the East Coast practice. He also started the Private Equity Services Division (now Global Fund Banking) for life science and healthcare VC funds on the East Coast. In 2010 he was honored with SVB’s Biggerstaff award for exemplifying the company’s guiding principles and demonstrating outstanding performance, leadership and client focus.

Before joining SVB, Michael worked for Dun & Bradstreet, going on to serve as executive vice president at Flagship Bank and Trust Company based in Worcester, Massachusetts. In that role, he was instrumental in building the company’s biotechnology business as well as its financing and treasury management services.

Michael earned a bachelor’s degree from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he is a member of the Tritons Hall of Fame for baseball. He also holds a master’s degree from the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Delaware.
