Bret Turner
Based in the Greater Denver area, Bret Turner serves as a managing director in SVB’s Climate Technology and Sustainability practice. As co-lead of the project finance team, Bret crafts flexible banking solutions that allow entrepreneurs to advance from the demo stage all the way through to their first commercial success and beyond. He finds it particularly rewarding when his work helps his clients deploy new energy and infrastructure assets and build new business models that disrupt the status quo.
Bret’s expertise is built upon nearly 20 years of experience in credit and equity investing, with a focus on energy and infrastructure. Before joining SVB in 2007, Bret served as an analyst for Sterne, Agee & Leach, which offers investment banking, brokerage and underwriting services. During this time, he helped build the company’s institutional research capabilities by reporting on small- to large-cap public exploration and production companies and by researching macro themes in the oil and gas industry. Earlier in his career, Bret worked for a private equity firm, focused on the oil and gas, transportation and gaming industries. Bret launched his career as a sales trader for the stock lending and prime brokerage practices in the London office of Credit Suisse First Boston. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in corporate finance from Louisiana State University. Bret has held the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Series 7, 86 and 87 licenses.
Bret is originally from New Orleans, but he relocated to the Rocky Mountains after Hurricane Katrina. Currently, he and his wife and two sons live in Boulder, Colorado. Bret enjoys returning to the Crescent City to join his twin brother as they ride in the Krewe of Bacchus, a famed Mardi Gras parade.
