Walter Ward III
Walter Ward is chief of staff in Atlanta for Silicon Valley Bank’s Liquidity Solutions group, a fast-growing group dedicated to the innovation economy. In this role, he leads people-related initiatives that include strategic hiring, learning and development, and engagement. He also provides operational leverage to the head of Liquidity Solutions by helping drive the strategy planning process and the development of objectives and key results. Walter leads group communications and, on occasion, large scale, one-off initiatives, and projects for the group.
Prior to joining SVB, Walter was chief of staff at Lambert & Co., a public relations, investor relations and integrated marketing firm. There, he was responsible for spearheading strategic initiatives, assisting with merger and acquisition integration and accelerating new services and innovation for Lambert & Co.’s growing family of companies. His previous experience also includes leading card technology projects as a consultant to Capital One, leading the performance management reporting process at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and serving as an associate in JPMorgan Chase’s international cash management group. In addition, he served as a management consultant for BTS, USA, Inc. in New York, providing counsel on strategic execution to large-scale financial firms. Because of his diverse background, Walter believes his current position as chief of staff could easily be referred to as “chief generalist.”
Walter is a member of the National Black MBA Association®. He participates in leadership development work with young Black men through the Men of Courage program sponsored by the Ford Foundation and has donated his time and expertise to the United Negro College Fund’s Koch Scholar Program. A skilled facilitator, he’s also led business acumen workshops for early-stage founders through Techstars and the Detroit Economic Club.
Walter has a master’s degree in business administration from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School in Atlanta and holds a bachelor’s degree in advertising from Michigan State University. When he’s not working, Walter loves to travel and has been to nine countries and almost every state in the US. He’s also an amateur DJ and a fan of ’90’s hip hop.
