Biopharma maintains funding lead
Biopharma remained healthcare's largest venture sector in H1 2026, raising $12.6B, while overall deal activity fell to a multi-year low.
At its current pace, healthcare venture investment could reach roughly $49B this year, marking a reset from the 2021 peak and a move into a more stable market.
2026: the year of M&A
M&A activity is heading for multiyear highs across all four sectors, with biopharma leading the way. The sector recorded 25 private acquisitions in the first half of 2026 and is on pace for a record year.
Several looming patent cliffs for some of the sector’s largest revenue-generating products are driving interest in acquisitions, IPOs and development deals.
