Mark Lau


Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Mark Lau manages Global Fund Banking’s venture capital firm relationships in the US for Silicon Valley Bank. He and his team provide banking services and debt financing for these firms and their funds, based on a deep understanding of their needs.

Prior to his current role, Mark was a senior relationship manager for Silicon Valley Bank, leading a technology lending team for the company in the Bay Area. Focusing primarily on venture-backed software and services companies, he provided specialized debt financing, commercial banking products, venture capital assistance, international financing and products, and M&A advisory services for his technology clients.

Before joining SVB in early 2004, Mark was vice president for GATX Ventures, Inc., a unit of GATX Capital that provided venture debt financing to start-up technology and life science companies across the U.S. and Canada. In this role, Mark was responsible for transaction and portfolio management, credit analysis and underwriting and managing the risk assessment process.

He also served as senior manager and management consultant with KPMG LLP’s credit risk management group in San Francisco and as a bank examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of the Currency.

Mark earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from San Diego State University. He served as a board member and treasurer for East Bay Habitat for Humanity from 1998 to 2002. Mark is currently a member of the Investment Committee for the Diocese of Oakland and is a board member of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of the Capital Region.
