Joe Kopnisky is a managing director in the startup banking practice at Silicon Valley Bank in Boston, Massachusetts. He advises pre-Series A tech startups on capital, growth and strategy; in addition, he leads portfolio management teams based in New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and Miami. Additionally, Joe is responsible for directing portfolio managers on the bank’s new and strategic channels practice, which is focused on identifying opportunities to engage with channel partners, founder communities, investors and venture studios that are committed to ensuring impact through opportunities for underrepresented founders and investors. Joe is enthusiastic about helping others succeed and find fulfillment in their lives — clients and colleagues alike. He has a deep, personal interest in fintech and believes the democratization of financial products will continue to accelerate and have a massive impact on our world.
Joe joined Silicon Valley Bank in 2009; during that time, he has partnered with thousands of entrepreneurs and witnessed the journeys of their game-changing technologies. His clients appreciate the unique vantage point he offers from his extensive experience with early-stage tech companies, most notably for the future of innovation. Earlier, he worked in business development and small- to middle-market commercial lending for RBS Citizens Bank and US Bank.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance and management, from the University of Dayton. Joe is a member of Summer Search Boston and Tech Gives Back. He is also a BUILD mentor and a volunteer and fundraiser for the Red Cross.
Outside of the office, Joe enjoys skiing, hiking, fishing and running. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife and their two sons, Parker and Davis.
