PALO ALTO, CALIF, August 11, 2003 — Silicon Valley Bank, a subsidiary of Silicon Valley Bancshares (SIVB), announced today Steven Rubin joined the SVB Private Bank as director of business development. Rubin is responsible for establishing and maintaining new relationships on behalf of SVB. The SVB Private Bank serves the personal banking and financial needs of high-net-worth individuals using the same partnership philosophy SVB extends to its corporate clients.

Over the course of his 30-year career, Rubin has served in senior management, operations and sales leadership roles in finance and technology companies. Prior to joining Silicon Valley Bank, Rubin was senior vice president and director of marketing and administration for Wells Fargo Van Kasper's Private Brokerage division. He co-founded Smartpaper Networks, an electronic media company, and he continues to serve as an advisor on its board of directors. Rubin has also held senior positions at Prudential Securities and Paine Webber Securities.

A founder and former chairman of the professional organization, the Silicon Valley Capital Club, Rubin currently serves as the chairman of the Capital Club Forum's speaker series and Executive Luncheon series and he sits on its board of governors and executive committee. He has also been a member of the Rotary Club of San Jose for 27 years, where he has held director and treasurer positions. Rubin served on the advisory board for San Jose National Bank and is a corporate advisor to Procera Networks, a hardware and software development company that designs and builds Layer 7 switches. In 2002, Rubin became an advisor to the Silicon Valley Engineering Council's Hall of Fame and Awards committee.

An active member of the Silicon Valley community, Rubin was a co-founder of the Ballet San Jose/Silicon Valley and a member if its board of trustees from 1986 to 1994. He also serves on the advisory board of the Silicon Valley Charity Ball Foundation. Rubin holds a bachelor's degree in Marketing from San Jose State University.
