Silicon Valley Bank Names Larry Lopez President of Private Banking

Company News  |

SANTA CLARA, CALIF., January 30, 2003 — Silicon Valley Bank, a subsidiary of Silicon Valley Bancshares (SIVB), announced today the appointment of Larry Lopez, former managing director of SVB Securities, as president of its Private Banking group. Lopez will oversee strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the group and spearhead the ongoing development of new products and services for private banking clients. In addition, Lopez will be responsible for management of Woodside Asset Management, for private investment counsel.

"Larry's trusted leadership, experience, valued Silicon Valley relationships and expertise in commercial banking, investment products and international banking give him a breadth of knowledge ideally suited for this role," said Harry Kellogg, vice chairman of Silicon Valley Bancshares. "With deep understanding, and a long and varied tenure in the banking industry, Larry is well-prepared to spearhead the growth of Private Banking and to enhance the products and services we offer our private clients."

Lopez joined Silicon Valley Bank in 1989. In addition to his role at SVB Securities, Lopez has held a variety of critical positions in his 20-year banking career, during which he has solicited, underwritten and managed transactions in the form of senior secured debt totaling in excess of half of a billion dollars.

As Managing Director of Silicon Valley Bank's International Venture Capital Group, Lopez was responsible for working with foreign venture capitalists, investors and businesses to facilitate foreign technology and life sciences companies interested in expanding into the United States. He was also responsible for Silicon Valley Bank's foreign venture capital activities, which included investments in venture capital funds and direct investment. Prior to that, Lopez managed Silicon Valley Bank's Diversified Industries Practice, which served mature companies throughout Northern California.

Lopez began his banking career at the Pacific Bank in San Francisco, where he was assistant vice president and held positions in commercial lending, trade finance and private banking. He later joined Bank of the West in San Jose, a subsidiary of the Banque Nationale de Paris, where he served as assistant vice president of corporate banking. Lopez holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Menlo College and is a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington.

Lopez is the chairman of CyberResearch in Perth, Australia, and on the advisory boards of Crossbow Ventures in West Palm Beach, Fla. and Bandwidth Capital in San Francisco, Calif. In addition, he is also involved in many local not-for-profit organizations.
