SANTA CLARA, Calif. – May 2, 2011 – Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), financial partner to innovative technology and life science companies worldwide, promoted Bob Blee, its former Midwest Market Manager and a former entrepreneur, to lead its Northern California region. In this role, Blee is responsible for the company's early stage and middle-market technology teams in Silicon Valley and San Francisco, which provide commercial banking services to over half of all venture capital-backed companies, and a large number of non-venture backed companies, throughout the region.
"Bob's background as a technology banker, his history with SVB, and his experience as an entrepreneur, give him the knowledge, skills and empathy to lead our largest region and to help make our clients in Northern California successful," said Joan Parsons, Head of U.S. Banking for Silicon Valley Bank.
Previously, Blee managed SVB's teams in Chicago and Minneapolis and was responsible for the company's market presence throughout 11 Midwestern states.
Blee began a career in commercial banking more than 20 years ago and mid-way through that time took a break from banking to start a technology company. Prior to joining Silicon Valley Bank in 2003, Blee co-founded The Savo Group, a Chicago-based provider of hosted sales enablement software and services. Before Savo, Blee spent nine years as a commercial lender and manager at Comerica and LaSalle Banks in Chicago.
While based in SVB's Chicago office, Blee was an active board member of the Illinois Technology Association and the TechAmerica Midwest chapter. He was also a charter member of TiE Midwest and active in the Illinois Venture Capital Association and Midwest Governors Association. An alumnus of the University of Illinois in Urbana, Blee is a board member of Illinois' College of Business Alumni Association.
