6,000 Hours of Community Service in 15 States and Five Countries Completed During Silicon Valley Bank's 30 Years | 30 Causes Campaign

In Celebration of 30 Years in Business, Silicon Valley Bank Employees Devoted Themselves to Charitable Causes in 30 Locations Around the World in 2013

SANTA CLARA, Calif. –– December 18, 2013 — This month, Silicon Valley Bank, financial partner to the innovation sector, its investors, and the wine industry, completed a global community service campaign called 30 Years | 30 Causes in honor of the company's 30th anniversary. Throughout the six month campaign, SVB and its employees gave more than 6,000 hours of volunteer labor to not-for-profit groups in every location where the company has an office around the world.

In addition to Silicon Valley Bank's annual giving campaigns, fundraisers, and volunteerism supported by the SVB Foundation, nearly 1,400 Silicon Valley Bank employees and their family members in 30 cities in the US, UK, India, Israel and China, volunteered with not-for-profit organizations in their local area giving hands-on resources to a wide variety of organizations in need of support:

  • 7 Youth and Family Housing Centers
  • 6 Elementary Schools
  • 4 Community Gardens and Farms
  • 4 Centers for Developmental Difficulties
  • 2 US Military Veterans Homes
  • 2 Habitat for Humanity Builds
  • 2 Environmental Clean-Up Days
  • 2 Animal Shelters
  • A Hospice
  • A Food Bank
  • A Disaster Relief Center
  • A Childrens' Hospital
  • See full list of organizations below.

"Our 30th anniversary community service campaign has returned a large multiple on our investment, and more goodwill than we could have hoped for," said Greg Becker , President and CEO of Silicon Valley Bank. "Through thousands of hours of service, our employees improved teamwork, strengthened relationships, exercised creativity and gained a renewed sense of pride for the company. Most of the organizations we worked with rely on support from volunteers, so we also believe the efforts of our teams made a lasting, positive impact."

At Willow Oaks school in Menlo Park, CA, for example, where 200 SVB employees painted inside and out, first grade teacher Janet Conn said, "Volunteering at the school makes students feel cared for, parents feel respected, and the staff feel supported by the larger community that cares about us and cares about our students. It really helps to level the playing field for our students and families."

Silicon Valley Bank opened its doors in the heart of Silicon Valley in 1983 to lend startup capital to companies that other banks thought too risky to take on as clients. Today, SVB provides commercial banking services, industry knowledge and a vast global network of connections to companies of all sizes in the technology, life science, cleantech, venture capital, private equity and premium wine industries.

Recently named one of the top corporate philanthropists in the Bay Area again by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, Silicon Valley Bank's culture of community involvement and philanthropy continues to grow. For example, in 2013, Silicon Valley Bank and it employees raised $42K for men's health during Movember, $140K for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, $830K for Best Buddies, and the SVB Foundation gave grants totaling $200K to 85 organizations for which SVB employees volunteer.

The "30 Years |30 Causes" initiative was developed after the company crowd sourced ideas from its employees to celebrate its anniversary. The global series of events began in July 2013 and ran through December.
Points of Light assisted SVB with the development and execution of its events worldwide.
