Silicon Valley Bank Named One of the Bay Area's Best Places to Work

Santa Clara, Calif., April 7, 2005 - Silicon Valley Bank, a subsidiary of Silicon Valley Bancshares (NASDAQ: SIVB), was ranked as one of the 100 "Best Places to Work" in the Greater Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times , S ilicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal and East Bay Business Times . Silicon Valley Bank is ranked 23rd among large companies (those with over 350 employees) in the region. The Business Journal recognized Silicon Valley Bank for understanding the importance in investing in its most valuable asset - its employees.

All employees of participating companies were given an opportunity to respond to questions about the company via an anonymous survey. Questions in the employee survey gauged how happy employees were with their work climate and culture, management practice and specific policies and benefits offerings.
