Phil Cox is the chief operations officer of Silicon Valley Bank, the commercial bank of SVB Financial Group (SVB). Silicon Valley Bank is one of SVB’s core businesses alongside SVB Capital, SVB Private and SVB Securities.

Phil leads bank operations, including enterprise project management, data, cybersecurity, client service and information technology teams and is a member of SVB’s executive committee.

He was appointed COO in 2019, after a decade establishing and overseeing SVB UK banking operations in London, and later EMEA operations in Germany, Ireland and Israel. Under his leadership, SVB built a strong reputation for serving technology and life science companies in the UK and across Europe.

Previously, Phil was the head of commercial banking at Bank of Scotland in London, a division of Lloyds Banking Group. He was responsible for relationship management, origination and operational aspects of the business. Before that, he held a variety of positions at the Royal Bank of Scotland’s NatWest Group for 23 years.

Phil sits on the governing board for NextGen Cyber Talent, a nonprofit that provides a platform to increase diversity and inclusion in the cybersecurity industry. He is an associate of both Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Association for Corporate Treasurers.
In Phil’s free time, he enjoys travel, photography, fishing and skiing. He is a qualified coach in rugby and cricket.
