
Torrance Childs is head of private banking offices for SVB Private in Boston, Massachusetts. Previously, he served as president, private banking, bank director at Boston Private until 2021, when Boston Private was acquired by SVB. Torrance is responsible for SVB Private bank branches and private bankers in the US. He is proud to lead a team of experts that provides extraordinary, client-facing support and personalized, private banking solutions for innovator clients.
Torrance spent 14 years with Boston Private. In his most recent position, he was responsible for private bankers, retail banking offices, the client service support group, cash management support and office strategy for the New England, Florida and California markets. Earlier, he was co-president, private banking group, bank director, creating an executive presence in new regions while working closely with other members of the executive leadership team; he led all growth and development in the regions while driving efforts to achieve regional targets across a variety of business lines. Before that, he held roles that included regional director, east coast, and national director of deposit management, as well as senior vice president and director of sales, national sales. Before joining Boston Private, he was a regional executive and president with Bank of America, leading the community banking division in the northeast and responsible for more than $6 billion in assets.
Torrance holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University and earned an MBA from the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University.
Torrance is a board member of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, an organization of thought-leaders, trusted advisors, advocates and network-builders working to improve the Massachusetts economy.
Outside of the office, Torrance is a competitive Play Station gamer, and he enjoys playing chess.
