The following information would be helpful for us to know:

  • Your travel dates and destination
  • Your current mobile number
  • Your Foreign Currency requests (available in 1-2 business days)

Why do we need to know your travel dates and destination?
Informing us of your travel dates and destination is important, as it helps to ensure your transactions are not blocked.

When you notify us of your travel dates and destination, we update our Transaction Monitoring Systems according to when and where you intend to use your ATM/debit card abroad. Our Transaction Monitoring System is an automated service that monitors your account activity in an effort to protect you and your accounts from potential fraud.

Tip: You should also let your credit card company know about planned travel so that a fraud alert isn’t placed on your card when you use it in an unfamiliar place.

Why do we need your current mobile number?
You should always inform us of updates to your personal contact information, including your mobile number. This is especially important when traveling, just in case we need to contact you to confirm the validity of your transactions.

When a transaction is deemed suspicious (either due to its origin or transaction type), our Transaction Monitoring System requires direct confirmation from you regarding the validity of your transaction. The System will generate an automated phone call to your mobile phone and, upon your response, the System will complete your transaction. For additional details on this service, please contact your relationship manager.

Tip: Your mobile service provider may charge you to receive calls or texts abroad, so it’s best to check with them before you go. It’s also a good idea to notify us anytime you change your home, mobile or work telephone numbers.

How do clients obtain Foreign Currency?
Clients can order foreign currency at select SVB Private locations. Please check with your local office to see if this service is available.

Foreign currency orders completed before 12:00 p.m. EST will generally be available for pickup at your banking office the following business day. Orders completed after 12:00 p.m. EST will be available on the second business day.
