Justin Balas is a director and private wealth advisor at SVB Private, serving high-net-worth clients across a range of backgrounds. Justin is a seasoned investment professional with an extensive background spanning private equity, multi-strategy hedge fund management and tailored alternative solutions. In this role, he’s dedicated to delivering customized investment offerings to his clients by leveraging SVB’s access to top-tier alternative investment managers.
Prior to joining SVB, Justin was a partner with the Harbinger Group, an agri-food private equity firm. Before that, he spent 15 years at Welton Investment Partners, a multi-strategy hedge fund and alternative investment firm. At Welton, he held several roles, including head of Investments and Principal, head of the Quantitative Macro Group and director of Research and Portfolio Management.
Justin has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz and an MBA from Northeastern University. He also holds a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) accreditation. While at UC Santa Cruz, Justin was member of the Banana Slugs tennis team when they won the national championship!
Justin lives with his family in Carmel, California. Outside of work, he enjoys skiing, playing tennis, hiking, surfing and spending time with his wife, two sons and the family golden retriever.
