SVB Direct Connect (OFX)

SVB Direct Connect (OFX) allows you to reconcile your SVB bank and credit card accounts from your preferred accounting application.

Using your SVB Online Banking User ID and Direct Connect PIN, your previous day’s balances and transactions from your various SVB accounts will automatically download into your supported third-party accounting, tax, expense, and ERP applications.

To get started using SVB Direct Connect, follow the instructions below to setup your Direct Connect PIN within SVB Online Banking and to connect to your accounting software.

The following applications also use SVB Direct Connect:

Reporting Data Availability

  • Previous day’s bank account data and same day credit card data (up to the most recent full hour) are available through Direct Connect, but only posted transactions, not pending.
  • Data is not refreshed on weekends or on bank holidays. Attempts to pull data on these days will return data from the previous business day.
  • SVB Direct Connect allows authorized applications to pull data up to 400 days prior to the current date.
  • SVB recommends Direct Connect authorized applications request data for a maximum of 90 days at a time; less data will process faster.

Set up My SVB Direct Connect PIN

To setup or manage your SVB Direct Connect PIN:

  1. Hover over the Arrow next to your name and select My Security under 'My Profile'.
  2. From My Security, scroll and select Manage My SVB Direct Connect PIN.
  3. A pop out window will appear to the right where you will see Type your New PIN. Your PIN must be 8 to 25 alphanumeric characters. It is not case-sensitive.imagen32be.png
  4. Click Save.
Important: You will also revisit this page to reset your PIN and number of authorized devices.

Reset My SVB Direct Connect PIN

You will be required to reset your SVB Direct Connect (OFX) PIN after 5 incorrect PIN attempts. To reset your SVB Direct Connect PIN:

  1. Hover over the Arrow next to your name and select My Security under 'My Profile'.
  2. Click on Disable PIN and enter in your desired PIN. Prior PINs can be reused in this situation if desired.image07y2p.png
  3. After you've disabled/reset your PIN and/or devices, return to your account application and refresh the connection to SVB Direct Connect.imageymer8.png
  4. If this does not work, delete and then re-add SVB Direct Connect.
Important: SVB permits up to 4 devices or unique applications to connect per user so if your device count shows 4, that can be reset as well. This is not typical for users who make use of multiple applications like Xero, Expensify, QuickBooks, or other Yodlee/Finicity powered apps.

Connect to Expensify

Using your PIN, complete the following steps to connect SVB Direct Connect to your accounting software:

  1. Access your Expensify account and click the profile box in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  2. Select Person Account Settings.
  3. Select Credit Card Import in the left navigation.
  4. Click Import Card/Bank (displays as green).
  5. Enter silicon in the search box, and select Silicon Valley Bank - SVB Direct Connect.
  6. Enter your SVB Online Banking User ID and Direct Connect PIN. Click Continue.
  7. Pass the CAPTCHA test and click Verify.
  8. Click the radio button to select the SVB Account you want to import. Currently, you can only add one account at a time.
  9. Click Accept Terms and Add.
  10. Click Finish and Load Transactions for the selected account.
  11. Confirm your correct Card is loaded and any errors fixed.
Important: The SVB Direct Connect (OFX) feed currently supports the following account types: Checking, Savings, Money Market, Loans, Multi-Currency, individual-billed Cardholder credit cards and corp-billed Card Account Manager credit cards. If you would like to sync other SVB account types, please contact your Relationship Advisor for assistance.

Connect to QuickBooks Online

Using your PIN, complete the following steps to connect SVB Direct Connect to your accounting software:

  1. Log in to QuickBooks Online and click Banking in the left navigation of your 'Dashboard'.
  2. Click Add account in the top-right of your screen.
  3. Search for Silicon Valley Bank (SVB Direct Connect).
  4. Enter your SVB Online Banking User ID and Direct Connect PIN.
  5. Click the I'm not a robot checkbox.
  6. Click Sign in.
  7. Select the SVB Accounts you want to connect and select the Account Type from the drop-down.
  8. Define your new account to be added. Add the cardholder’s name in the Name field. An account description can be added at your discretion.
  9. Click Save and Close.

 

Manage SVB Credit Cards in QuickBooks Online

  1. Go to the Banking screen to view and manage your SVB card and bank accounts.
  2. Select any of the account tiles to see that account's expenses below.
  3. You can also use the pencil icon in the tile to edit attributes of the account.
  4. In the transactions area, you can view transactions by category using the secondary tabs For Review, In QuickBooks, and Excluded.
  5. Click Add to add individual transactions into your QuickBooks Online accounts.

Connect to QuickBooks Desktop

Using your PIN, complete the following steps to connect SVB Direct Connect to your accounting software:

  1. Access QuickBooks and click Banking in the main menu, then select Bank Feeds, and Set Up Bank Feed for an Account.
  2. Type svb in the 'Enter your bank's name field' and select SVB Direct Connect.
  3. Review the 'Enroll in Direct Connect' information and click Continue.
  4. Enter your SVB Online Banking User ID and SVB Direct Connect PIN.
  5. Click Connect.
  6. For the accounts you want to link, select to link them to existing QuickBooks Desktop accounts or create new ones. Click Connect.
    • If you added a new account, you will be prompted to add details about that account.
  7. Once all accounts have been linked and imported, click Banking from the main menu, then select Bank Feeds, and Bank Feeds Center to view the linked accounts and Download Transactions.

 

Manage Your SVB Credit Cards in QuickBooks Desktop

  1. To download transactions, re-enter your SVB Direct Connect PIN.
  2. You will see a summary of how many transactions have been imported.
  3. From the Account Information page, you are given the option to sync or refresh your connected SVB account(s).
  4. Click Transaction List to view transactions for the account you have highlighted on the left.
  5. From the Transactions screen, you can manage the transactions for that account.

Connect to Xero

Feeds will update automatically after 12:00 AM PST each night. You may also refresh your feed manually.

The following account types are supported in this process:

  • DDAs (Checking and Savings)
  • MMAs (Money Market Accounts)
  • Loan Accounts
  • Credit Card Accounts (individual-billed)

Using your PIN, complete the following steps to connect SVB Direct Connect to your accounting software:

  1. From your Xero account, search for and select Silicon Valley Bank (US) on the Add Bank Accounts screen under the 'Accounts' tab.
  2. Click Login & Connect Accounts.
  3. Enter your Customer ID (SVB Online Banking User ID) and SVB Direct Connect PIN and click Continue.
  4. Xero connects to SVB Direct Connect (OFX) to retrieve and display eligible SVB accounts. Check the accounts you would like to synchronize and click Connect.
  5. SVB Bank and Card accounts with Xero accounts by selecting the Connect to a Xero bank account drop-down. Click Connect. Transactions and statements will be imported.
