Laura Cushing


Laura Cushing is the chief human resource officer (CHRO) for SVB. In this role, she leads the enterprise human resources function, enabling a diverse and global workforce to serve the financial needs of the innovation economy.
With more than 25 years of experience in human resources and talent acquisition, Laura is recognized for her expertise in leading corporate cultural transformation programs, developing and executing large-scale HR strategies, leadership and professional development initiatives and navigating HR regulatory requirements. She is based in the New York office and joined SVB in 2022.

Laura served as the CHRO for Loews Corporation, a diversified holding company, where she was responsible for developing and executing the company’s HR strategy in alignment with Loews’ corporate strategies. While there, she oversaw talent and performance management, succession planning and training and development. Before her time at Loews, Laura was head of talent management and organizational development for JPMorgan Chase & Co. for their consumer and community banking division. There, she implemented a strategic people and business agenda for 120,000 employees. She spent more than 20 years with JPMorgan Chase, holding several leadership roles during her tenure with the firm, including roles in wholesale, consumer banking and corporate business groups.

Laura earned a master’s degree in human resource development from Villanova University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The University of Rhode Island.

Laura lives in New Jersey. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing soccer, outdoor activities and supporting Sister Pat’s Kids Camp, a program for children with cancer.
