Every time I meet with a group of tech company CEOs they say the same thing: hiring world-class talent is one of their biggest challenges. They struggle to find, attract and retain the engineering, scientific and technical talent they need to grow their businesses.

So when I saw the results of our annual Startup Outlook survey this year, I was not surprised. While nine in ten startup executives said they were hiring, an equal number said it is challenging - or extremely challenging - to find workers with the skills they need.

Knowing the significance of innovation startups on the prospects for growth in the US economy overall, we starting asking leaders of startup companies about four years ago how their businesses are performing, whether they are hiring and which policies will continue to enable their growth.

The technology sector continues to lead the broader economy out of the downturn, posting strong returns even as the overall economy strains to rebound. Dynamicnew sectors are growing rapidly, businesses are hiring and startup executives are bullish on the U.S. market. Optimism and confidence remain high.
