Stock Options and Warrants as Compensation (FAS 123R)
The Financial Accounting Standards Board Statement 123R (FAS 123R) has changed the earnings of many companies that must now reflect a compensation expense related to the granting of stock options and similar equity-based compensation plans. FAS 123R requires companies to expense their share-based compensation and reflect it on their income statements. Given its length and complexity, the Statement poses a considerable challenge to fast-moving startup companies as well as established private companies that need to add a new expense to their income statements.
