Steve Johnson

Steve Johnson, CFA, is a portfolio manager for SVB Asset Management (SAM) in Boston, where he and his team are responsible for structuring, analyzing and monitoring fixed income portfolios for SVB clients. Steve’s role requires not only market awareness and fixed income expertise, but also a deep understanding of clients’ goals and risk tolerances. Combined, this knowledge helps Steve deliver portfolios that increase clients’ probability of success. He considers serving as “an extension of our client’s treasury team” to be both an honor and a privilege — one that he’s continually driven to earn.

Before joining SVB, Steve worked for more than 10 years in various roles within the fixed income markets. Most recently, he served as a client portfolio manager at Invesco, where his main area of focus was index-based investment strategies for US, EMEA and APAC clients. Prior to that, he was a fixed income client portfolio manager at Wells Fargo Asset Management specializing in core bond, long credit and short duration government bond strategies. He also worked in institutional fixed income sales and trading on the sell-side at Morgan Stanley.

Steve has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Duke University and a master’s degree from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. He’s a member of the Boston CFA Society.

On the weekends, you can find Steve running, doing CrossFit, playing basketball or watching NBA and NCAA basketball (Go, Duke!). He also enjoys reading, spending time with friends and enjoying all there is to do in Boston.
