Kristen Durham is the Global Gateway Director at Silicon Valley Bank, responsible for cross-border business development and client service in emerging international markets. Durham’s work focuses on supporting early stage, growth and established technology and life sciences companies as they build strategic relationships and sustainable businesses in new markets, with particular emphasis on China, Latin America, Russia, Turkey and Australia. She has been with the bank since June 2011.
Prior to SVB, Durham was Vice President of Global Initiatives at the Bay Area Council (BAC) and a senior analyst with the BAC Economic Institute. She led the Council’s effort to open an investment and trade promotion office in Shanghai in 2010 and assisted a number of US companies with market entry strategy, private sector partnerships, and government relations. While at the Council, she also coordinated the US|China Green Tech Summit, a bi-national clean energy conference held November 2008 in Shanghai.
Durham has held a variety of other marketing and analytical roles at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Trade Office in Guangzhou, U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, California Public Utilities Commission, Food and Agriculture Policy Research Institute, and Association of Clean Water Administrators.
She holds an MS in Energy & Resources from the University of California-Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri, during which time she also pursued studies in environmental engineering at Wuhan University in Wuhan, China. She speaks conversational Mandarin Chinese, and remains active with the China-U.S. Energy Efficiency Alliance and the Asia Society of Northern California.
