Newport Beach, CA
-- August 2, 2001 -- Silicon Valley Bank (the "Bank"), a wholly
owned subsidiary of Silicon Valley Bancshares, announced
Systine, Inc. as the winner of its debut Southern California
Showcase event.
The Southern California Showcase, hosted in Newport Beach,
California, featured 10 of the area's most promising early
stage companies, each giving three-minute presentations to a
panel of prominent angel and venture capital investors.
Panelists included moderator John Otterson, Silicon Valley
Bank; Fred Haney, California Technology Partners; Robert
Kibble, Mission Ventures; Greg Martin, Redpoint Ventures; Safi
Quershey, Skyline Ventures; and Luis Villalobos, Tech Coast
Angels.
Additional investors made up the Showcase audience --
listening to presentations and enjoying a post-event networking
session with the entrepreneurs. All attendees and presenters at
the Showcase event were clients of Silicon Valley Bank.
"At Silicon Valley Bank's Showcase, Systine was able to
present its business plan and funding needs to some of the
technically savviest VC firms in California," said Siddharth
Dasgupta, chief executive officer of first place Systine. "The
Bank's years of experience working with high-tech startups and
VCs provide valuable opportunities for small companies such as
ours."
The Showcase event series was originated and continues to be
hosted by Silicon Valley Bank, with Showcases being held around
the country. It provides an additional service to the Bank's
clients; early stage companies can present to a room full of
investors and investors are provided with quality investment
opportunities.
The Southern California Division plans to hold a Showcase
event at least three times each year.
"The event was a tremendous success for the Bank, our
entrepreneurial clients that presented and our clients in the
Southern California investment community," said Mark Breneman,
senior relationship manager of the Bank's Emerging Technologies
Team. "Our presenting clients benefited from the opportunity to
build and solidify relationships with the venture capital
community and seem to appreciate the value-add this type of
event provides."
Silicon Valley Bank serves emerging growth and middle market
companies in targeted niches, focusing on technology and life
sciences, while also addressing other specific industries in
which it can provide a higher level of service and better
manage credit through specialization and focus.
