Learn more about SVB 30 Years | 30 Causes
Our country reserves one day during the year to formally recognize and honor the sacrifice and dedication of our U.S. veterans. Unfortunately, many of the same veterans who are honored for their work often have an unrewarding experience when they return home. Recently, a client from our wine division introduced us to a local organization that helps military veterans assimilate back into society after living a warrior’s life oversees. We have also heard the stories of our own colleagues who have family members who have served or are currently serving in the military. So, it was a not a hard decision to dedicate our time to an organization that gives our heroes the homecoming that they need and deserve as part of our 30 Years| 30 Causes campaign.
The Pathway Home, Inc. is a local organization based in Yountville, CA that provides comprehensive treatment for military personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The not-for-profit assists those impacted by Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other post-combat mental health challenges as they reintegrate into their families and the community at large. Utilizing a holistic approach to healing, the Pathway Home offers treatments to support program residents with a variety of individual and group therapy programs. It’s a small organization that receives no government support. We were inspired by the group’s mission, and we wanted to offer whatever we could to help.
On our designated volunteer day, 14 SVB employees volunteered to improve the overall appearance of the home and the living experience for the residents. We cleaned up the multi-purpose areas and common rooms inside and gave the grounds a fresh cut outside. We repainted their exterior railings and the Pathway Home sign, plus rearranged their outdoor furniture for a new gathering area. Cactus Jungle donated the plants and succulents that we potted and displayed around the facility. Finally, we reorganized and tidied up the facility’s recycling areas and installed new dispensers for recycling. As a bonus, we were able to clear out some of the group’s old furniture and donate it to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore in Napa/Sonoma County.A little TLC went a long way for the veteran residents and their visitors.
Our team appreciated the day to support our veterans and bring more awareness to the Pathway Home. To learn all the ways local individuals and groups can get involved visit thepathwayhome.org/. Volunteer Marin is also working with many other local organizations like the Pathway Home to develop easy, accessible ways for Northern California residents to volunteer.
