Living and working in California has its rewards. Longer days, access to beautiful beaches, and fantastic weather year round. It leaves us with very little to complain about and a big desire to give back. For Silicon Valley Bank's 30 Years | 30 Causes campaign, we were presented with several options for our service day. We couldn't decide on just one, so with the help of HandsOn Network, our team of 18 SVBers met at La Jolla Shores to take on three projects close to our hearts.
San Diego CoastKeepers is the region's largest organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the beaches and waters from which residents of San Diego County swim, fish, and drink. Our group of beach clean-up volunteers combed the shores to collect and discard trash, removing 18 pounds of trash and over 100 cigarette butts.
Another part of our volunteer team worked with Project Linus, a national organization providing handmade blankets for children in need. Our "blanketeers" were tasked with making colorful, fleece blankets for patients at a local children's hospital. A third group of volunteers rolled up their sleeves and channeled their inner Picasso to paint a seahorse mural for Rady Children's Hospital San Diego. We had fun working the left side of our brains and hope the mural and blankets will bring comfort to the kids.
A big thanks to HandsOn Network, Points of Light and Right Hand Events for their assistance. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect way to spend a day at the beach and give back to the beautiful community we call home.
About 30 Years | 30 CausesThe "30 Years | 30 Causes" campaign was developed after Silicon Valley Bank crowd sourced ideas from its employees to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The company will host 30 community service events around the world near each of its offices in 2013. A listing of SVB's 30 Years | 30 Causes events, as well as photos, will be updated at www.svb.com/svb-30-years/ and www.facebook.com/SVBFinancialGroup.
