There's nothing like a great cause to bring a team together — even in blistering heat.
As part of Silicon Valley Bank's 30 Years | 30 Causes campaign, our Northern Virginia office volunteered at our local Humane Society to build additional kennels for dogs awaiting adoption. A couple days before the event, we wondered if this was such a good idea. The weather forecasts were predicting nearly 100 degree heat. In true SVB fashion though, our team pulled together and showed up ready to work.
The Commonwealth Humane Society provides for the welfare, shelter and adoption of homeless cats and kittens and dogs and puppies. It promotes the responsible care of companion animals, and actively promotes spaying and neutering as the most humane means of animal control. Our team - tractors included - helped renovate and build outdoor kennels in order to create space for more dogs. Best of all, the shelter will be able to triple the number of dogs saved in any given year.
Knowing we were making a difference for so many cute canines helped us stay focused. Equally important though, this day was a great reminder of what we can do when we work together, despite the external circumstances.
About 30 Years | 30 CausesThe “30 Years |30 Causes” campaign was developed after Silicon Valley Bank crowd sourced ideas from its employees to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The company will host 30 community service events around the world near each of its offices in 2013. A listing of SVB’s 30 Years | 30 Causes events, as well as photos, will be updated at www.svb.com/svb-30-years/ and www.facebook.com/SVBFinancialGroup Follow @SVB_Financial’s community service initiatives on Twitter with #SVB30.
