It was reported this last weekend that the outgoing SEC chairman delayed a ruling on a part of the JOBS act out of concerns around her legacy.
Is this surprising to anyone? I hope not.
Politicians and political appointees (make no mistake, they are often one in the same) are, by definition, concerned about their reputation when applying for a position and their legacy on the way out. All of these jobs are very temporary in nature which reinforces these concerns.
On the other hand, we sometimes get politicians who govern by their own compass and when that compass is similar to ours, we call them "great leaders." When it differs, we use other phrases.
