In Minnesota, we are certainly not alone when it comes to striving to do good in our community.
There is a large coalition of community-minded innovators and entrepreneurs who began a project called "Entrepreneur House" 11 years ago. It is a project of the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. Many of our clients, partners like Cherry Tree, as well as supporters of the innovation sector have been involved in this project to renovate homes in our local area for families in need.
In the Twin Cities area alone, approximately 660 eligible families complete applications for Habitat homes annually. Despite the amazing work being done to build these homes, and lots of them, less than 10% of the applicants can be selected and end up moving in. The need is large, and we wanted to help.
As we said, we are in good company. Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity engages over 20,000 volunteers a year and on any given day during peak construction periods, more than 270 volunteers are working on up to 20 homes.
So, we donned our hammers, hardhats and tool belts again today to put a little SVB love and horsepower into Entrepreneur House in St. Paul. As you can see, our team looks the part, and worked really hard to help move this housing project along.
We're not competitive or anything (!), but also not surprised that the SVB Minnesota team was the first to kick off Silicon Valley Bank's 30 Years | 30 Causes campaign with this event.
This is a project we love to support, and in fact secured a $2,500 grant from the SVB Foundation to help Entrepreneur House reach its $150,000 fundraising goal for this home.
When it's all done, our team at SVB and colleagues in the market will not only have a great sense of accomplishment and pride for a job well done, but we will have had the opportunity to improve the quality of life for a family in our community. It doesn't get much better than that on a work day.
