There have been a number of companies to enter or approach registration; however, for the most part, just one in each key vertical. This presents an interesting question. Are these collectively a catalyst for IPO and other exits for the industry, are they individually leaders for their respective verticals, or is there no connection whatsoever? With Codexis off its offering price and lackluster performance by many existing public companies, investors are clearly not overly optimistic. On the other hand, pent-up demand for Cleantech offerings may outweigh that apparent skepticism and also be reflected in valuations. Highlighting this conundrum, Tesla had an initially successful debut while Solyndra has pulled its offering.
